3. Research activities
Pluripotent porcine and human stem cells
A Class I stem cell laboratory has been established at DVCAS approved for work on genetically modified cells. The major contemporary projects focus on (1) establishment of human patient-specific neural in vitro cell models for neurodegenerative disorders by the use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) (supported by Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation, EU and Innovation Fund Denmark) and (2) basic studies of porcine iPSC for the development of the pig as a translational model for iPSC-based cell therapy (supported by Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation).
In vitro production (IVP) of bovine embryos
Bovine IVP is optimized by improved oocyte maturation and embryo culture technologies. Quantitative genomics is applied for precise selection of donors for ovum pick up, high quality embryos, and fertile recipients (supported by The Danish Council for Strategic Research).
4. Supervision of PhD students
Principal supervisor of 25 PhD students (7 on-going programs).
5. Attraction of grants (over the past 6 years)
Since 1985 accumulation of approximately 130 million DKK (17,4 million €).

6. Managerial skills and leadership experience
Coordinator of the EU-funded Marie Curie project STEMMAD including activities at universities and SMEs in Hungary, Thailand, and Denmark. Coordinator of several large research projects supported by the Research Councils and the Danish Advanced Technology Foundation. More than 20 years’ experience as Professor and Group Leader of an organization, which presently includes 3 associate professors, a project manager, 3 postdocs, 4 laboratory technicians, 8 PhD students, and a varying number of guest researchers, bachelor, and master students. Director of BrainStem.
