  • Pædagogisk sociologi, herunder studier af skole-, opdragelses- og uddannelsesforhold i primært Danmark og Sverige, sekundært England og Frankrig.
  • Statsdannelsesprocesser gennem politiske og professionelle interventioner.
  • Etniske minoriteter og uddannelse i et europæisk og komparativt perspektiv.
  • Integrations- og migrationsforhold i et transnationalt og internationalt perspektiv.
  • Etnicitets-, nationalstatsdannelses- og kulturstudier.

Aktuelle og tidligere forskningsprojekter 

  • Pædagogisk arbejde med asylsøgende børn i samspillet mellem kommunale grundskoler, asylcentre og forvaltning.
  • Forholdet mellem pædagogik og velfærdsstatslige vs. neoliberale statsformer.
  • Den politiske historie om kategoriseringer, klassifikationer og interventioner over for ”indvandreren”, 1945-2014.
  • Studier af brud, forskydninger og forstyrrelser i det pædagogiske felt.

Research areas

Bolette Moldenhawer is a senior researcher and research coordinator at the University of Copenhagen. Her research and publications focuses on cultural sociology of pedagogy, e.g. the role of education as regards social inequalities, professional work, young people’s schooling strategies, cultural identity and social positioning – in comparative and international perspectives. Within the research field of migration and integration, the focus is on transnational educational strategies, ethnic minority and majority relations, and mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion. Her future research is focusing on political categorisation practices addressing "the immigrant" in relation to historical processes of state transformation. Moreover, her research is exploring the pedagogical work addressing asylum seeking and newly arrived children in public schools in Denmark.
