Negative supervisionsoplevelser og deres konsekvenser: om evaluering og devaluering i supervision

    Abstract

    Abstract
Starting from the paradox between the controlling-evaluative and supportative-developmental aspects of supervision, this paper examines evaluation in supervision by a short example, research and reviews of literature, and by means of the author´s own, recently gathered experiences in evaluation.

First part of the paper explores negative experience in supervision in general. The second part, focusing on negative experience in supervision caused by evaluation, is explored and discussed in relation to the key concept of supervisory alliance (Bordin, 1983), perceiving evaluation as the ‘stress-test’ of the alliance. A model for evaluation is presented and the authors own examples related to this are presented. A discussion of non-disclosure in supervision follows (Ladany et al. 1996) and is connected to the supervisory alliance and evaluation.

The conclusion is, supported by research, that especially training of supervisors is needed, to improve the complex and crucial discipline of evaluating supervisees.
