Short presentation

Stine is Postdoc at Section for Biologics at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Copenhagen. She holds a Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences from University of Copenhagen and a PhD in food biophysics from the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen.

For the last 7 years, Stine has been working in academia including both research in close collaboration with the industry (Arla during the PhD and as an external Novo Nordisk fellow during her postdoc), lecturing and supervision of especially master students. Also, she has developed teaching material for Development of teaching material to the European Patients' Academy Expert Training Course for Patients and Patient Representatives (EUPATI) on the Medicines Research & Development Process.

Based on a master project at LEO Pharma focusing on cutaneous drug delivery of small molecules including use of ex vivo skin models, her PhD was within physico-chemical characterization of fat-based emulsions including utilization of large synchrotron facilities. With this interdisciplinary background, Stine moved on to a postdoc in the field of oral delivery of large molecules, especially focusing on in vitro and in vivo evaluation hereof. During her PhD, she extensively used advanced physical and biophysical analytical, all highly applicable to development and characterization of the physico-chemical behavior of drug delivery systems (DDS). Stine’s current work includes development of DDS primarily being hydrogels including permeation enhancers such as lipids, membrane modulating peptides and cell penetrating peptides. The work is with a particular focus on a detailed understanding of the physico-chemical structure of DDS is key to fully to understand their mechanistic behavior in vitro and in vivo. Also, focus is on the mechanistic behavior, safety, kinetics and dynamics of the DDS has subsequently been studied using advanced in vitro models and in complex in vivo models.

Stine is currently associated to employed on an EU project, COMPACT, where she is Project leader and responsible for in vitro and in vivo methodology. In relation to this, she holds of an in vivo license which includes monitoring and approval of protocols used under the license, quality assurance of the technical skills of the people working under the license, assurance of ethical aspects in agreement with both legislation and license, yearly reporting to the Animal Experiments Inspectorate, The Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark.
