Presentation

Niels Morling is Professor of Forensic Genetics since 2004 and since 2018 Adjunct Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Aalbor University. In 1989, he was employed as director of the Institute of Forensic Genetics, later Section of Forensic Genetics at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. In the period 2003-2017, he was director of the Department of Forensic Medicine.

Niels Morling is a medical doctor and doctor of medical sciences (dr.med.), specialist in clinical immunology and general practice. He is qualified as professor of basic immunology, clinical immunology, and was called for a professorship in forensic genetics.

Niels Morling’s research was previously focused on biochemistry, clinical immunology, immunogenetics, basic and medical genetics. Now, his research is focusing on forensic genetic methods, forensic statistics, the genetics and epigenetics of pigmentation, age, tissues, sudden cardiac death, severe psychiatric disorders, skin diseases, and paracetamol poisoning. He has published more than 400 papers with more than 300 colleagues.

Niels Morling has a theoretical and practical education in teaching. He has been teaching medical students and medical doctors as well as law students and graduate law practitioners. He has been involved in education of PhD students and evaluation of PhD and doctor of science theses for more than 30 years. He established and chaired the PhD programme ‘Forensic Medicine and Anthropology’ at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen for 10 years.

Niels Morling is editor and member of a number of editorial boards of scientific journals. 

Niels Morling has been/is chairman of the International Society for Forensic Genetics, the English Speaking Working Group of the International Society for Forensic Genetics, the European DNA Profiling Group, and the Danish Society for Clinical Immunology. He has been/is member of he boards of a number of international forensic genetic organisations and member of commissions under the Danish Board of Health as well as the Danish and Norwegian Ministries of Justice.
