PhD project: Pharmacological characterization of membrane transporters for γ-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB)
GHB is known as the drug of abuse Fantasy, but is also a clinically used drug for treatment of narcolepsy and the compound is present endogenously in the brain. My PhD project focuses on characterizing different membrane transporters for GHB – primarily in regards to synaptic transport as well as transport across the blood-brain barrier. The work is carried out in Associate Professor Petrine Wellendorph’s laboratory and is focused around the field of molecular pharmacology.
