Mit primære forskningsområde er genetiske problemstillinger hos hunde. Jeg har forsket i arvelige sygdomme som f.eks. kobber toksikose hos Bedlington terrier, kronisk exocrin pancreas insufficiens hos Eurasier og muskeltræthed hos Gammel Dansk Hønsehund. Forskningens sigte har været at påvise specifikke arvegange, lede efter gener med betydning for sygdommene samt prøve at identificere causative mutationer.
Jeg har desuden gennemført undersøgelser af genetisk variation hos en række hunderacer med henblik på at vurdere mulige avlsstrategier. Et af mine igangværende forskningsprojekter skal evaluere den genetiske variation hos Danmarks 5 nationale hunderacer: Broholmer, Dansk-Svensk gårdhund, Gammel Dansk hønsehund, Dansk Spids og Grønlandshund.
