Abstract
This article explores practices of game and nature management by landowners
and hunters. It is based on two representative surveys of Danish landowners
and hunters, each involving more than 2,000 respondents. Landowners
and hunters were asked about their practices in relation to hunting, game
management, and changes in their land and rented hunting areas, respectively.
Results indicate that hunting motivates landowners to create landscape elements
that benefit game and nature more broadly, although owners who do not allow hunting on their land also do so, albeit to a lesser degree. Further, results indicate that hunters are active in supporting and driving the creation of
a variety of such landscape elements on leased hunting grounds, although there
are challenges associated with not being the owner of the area. Other issues that
inhibit engagement in game and nature management comprise logistical and
financial constraints, as well as regulations, in particular the Single Payment
Scheme.
