    Abstract

Maintained cardiac output (CO) and cerebral oxygenation (ScO2) are of importance for a reduction in perioperative complications. Normovolaemia is defined as a central blood volume that does not limit CO for the supine patient and is maintained by individualized goal directed fluid therapy. Thereby, ScO2 is maintained even when the mean arterial pressure is < 40 mm Hg. However, for some patients, ScO2 decreases with a small reduction in blood pressure and it is recommended that ScO2 be monitored
