Abstract
The paper examines students' expectations regarding teachers and teaching through a survey of approximately 200 BA and MA students. The findings suggest that students generally prefer lectures and presentations of the curriculum given by teachers rather than alternative methods of curriculum delivery. Demographic, structural and subjective characteristics of the students are included in models to explain variations in student preferences. Contra to our expectations, we find that the preferences of the students regarding teachers and teaching methods are only to a very limited extent explained by the included variables
