Current research

Falling at the intersection of International Law, International Relations and Linguistics Zuzanna’s research examines questions of legitimation and trust in international courts. Combining interviews with various tools of text and discourse analysis, one strand of her research explores the legitimation of the International Court of Justice and the World Trade Organization's Appellate Body in the courts' interface with their member states.

Using interviews and survey data another strand of her research examines the role of registries and legal secretariats in building trust among litigants, NGOs and the broader public in two regional human rights courts, i.e. the European Court of Human Rights and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. This research is carried out in collaboration with Cosette Creamer and generously supported by the University of Minnesota's Grant-in-Aid grant and its College of Liberal Arts Seed Grant.

As of June 2019, Zuzanna has moreover been affiliated to the project The Global Sites of International Criminal Justice (JustSites) lead by PI Mikkel Jarle Christensen and funded by the ERC Starting Grant (StG-802053). Her research under JustSites focuses on the evolution of ideas and concepts in the field of international criminal law.
