Short presentation

Professor Søren Bøye Olsen, born in 1976, has 15 years of experience with economic valuation of non-market goods such as nature and ecosystem services, as well as new food products. He has mainly worked with Stated Preference methods and has participated in several research projects at regional, national and international level. He has made important contributions to the scientific literature with special emphasis on explaining apparently irrational respondent behavior in Stated Preference surveys. In addition to the valuation of non-market environmental goods, his research has focused on understanding consumer behavior and preferences for foods with the aim of predicting demand for new products. Recently, he has also employed modern technology in relation to this, namely in terms of using eye trackers as a source of behavioural information, especially in relation to novel foods. He also works with cost-benefit analysis and multi-criteria analysis methods, focusing on practical applications that create better decision basis for politicians and other decision makers. He is Head of Studies for the MSc in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics at Copenhagen University, and he is course responsible for the MSc level course on "Economic Valuation Methods and Cost-Benefit Analysis". Besides that he has given a large number of guest lectures in other courses, and he has supervised more than 40 MSc thesis students and seven PhD students.
