Research: My main research interest is the study of inflammatory reactions in animals, especially pigs. The research field includes infectious diseases specific to pigs, but also the use of pigs in translational research. Thus one project focused on surfactant protein D and pneumonias in pigs, and at present I participate in the study of varius aspects of porcine Staphylococcus aureus infection. My latest project will develop and validate inflammation-/infection sepecific positron emission tomography (PET) tracers in a porcine S. aureus osteomyelitis model. The basic techniques used to study these topics are anchored within the discipline of pathology, i.e. morphological methods including gross pathology, FISH, IHC, in-situ hybridization and stereology.

Teaching: In collaboration with the staff at the Section of Pathology, I teach veterinary students the pathology of the respiratory tract, the gastrointestinal tract, the hematopoietic system, and the skin and the mammary glands (lectures); and also post mortem examination and histopathology (exercises).

Service: In collaboration with the staff at the Section of Pathology, I perform post mortem examination of animals as a service to other departments at the faculty, and also on request from the police and other authorities.
