Gamma-ray bursts, sources of gravitational waves, quasars, galaxies, origin of chemical elements, the early Universe.

Current research

Spectroscopy of gamma-ray bursts and quasars, sources of gravitational waves, the most distant galaxies and gamma-ray bursts. Galaxy counterparts of Damped Lyman-alpha Absorbers.

Teaching

I have taught courses on Galaxies, Galaxy formation, Cosmology, Advanced cosmology, Galactic dynamics, Fundamentals of Astronomy and Observational Astrophysics.

Furthermore, I have taught at a number of PhD summerschools.

I have superviced about 10 PhD students and a larger number of master students on topics within the fieds of galakxies, gamma-ray bursts and quasars. Examples:

Born 1971 in Vejle, Denmark

Maried to Charlotte Harkjær Fynbo 2003. Two children: Clara Kirstine Fynbo (2006) and Rasmus Peter Fynbo (2009).

Educated at Århus University. Cand. scient in physics 1998, PhD in natural science 2000.

Researchfellow at the European Southern Observatory 2000-2002.

Post.doc. 2002-2004 funded by the Carlsbergfoundation (based in Århus, but employed at the University of Copenhagen).

Associate professor at the Niels Bohr Institute from 2004. 2005 co-founder of the DARK Cosmology Centre.
Professor mso from 2011 in connection with an ERC starting grant (consolidator) project.

Full professor from May 2019.
 
From 2018 affiliated to the research center DAWN working on the first galaxies and quasars.
