Dorte Sindbjerg Martinsen is professor at Department of Political Science, University of Copenhagen. She holds a higher doctorate from University of Copenhagen (2015) and a Ph.D. (2004) from the European University Institute in Florence.
Martinsen is co-editor of West European Politics and sits as expert in the Implementation Council (Implementeringsrådet) of the Danish government among other external tasks.
Martinsen's research focuses in particular on EU integration of welfare policies, including healthcare, the dynamics between law and politics in the EU, implementation, enforcement and compliance with EU policies. Her work has been published in Comparative Political Studies, Public Administration, American Review of Public Administration, Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of Common Market Studies, West European Politics and European Union Politics among othe journals. In 2015, Martinsen published her book with Oxford University Press An Ever More Powerful Court? The Political Constraints of Legal Integration in the European Union, which compares political responses to the legal integration of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) within the social policy area - theoretically and empirically.The book was awarded the EUSA best book prize 2015/2016, May 2017, in Miami. At Department of Political Science Martinsen is part of the Centre for European Politics and the research group Comparative Politics. Together with Ellen Mastenbroek (Radboud University, Nijmegen) and Reini Schrama (University of Copenhagen) Martinsen is engaged in a research project, investigating the role of European Administrative Networks (EANs) in the implementation and enforcement of EU legislation.
