Primary fields of research

Dan Meyrowitsch forsker i epidemiologi og har viden om global sundhed, epidemiologisk transition, risikofaktorer relateret til type 2 diabetes, kontrol af parasitære infektioner, herunder malaria og intestinale orm, schistosomiasis (sneglefeber), lymfatisk filariasis (elefantiasis). Han har deltaget i udviklingen af medicinske strategier til massebehandling af lymfatisk filariaisis i lavindkomstsamfund. Han studerer interaktionen mellem individer og behandingsprogram med fokus på medicinsk massebehandling i lavindkomstsamfund, opfattelser og praksis relateret til kost og fysisk aktivitet i lavindkomstsamfund og konsekvenser af vold rettet mod gravide kvinder i lavindkomstsamfund.

  1. Epidemiologisk transitionsteori anvendt som model til fremskrivning af hyppighed og udbredelse af kroniske, ikke-smitsomme sygdomme i lavindkomstlande.
  2. Ændringer i fysisk aktivitet, ernæringsmønstre, forbrug af tobak og alkohol i lavindkomstsamfund under modernisering, herunder muligheder for primær forebyggelse med fokus på type 2 diabetes og hjertekarsygdomme.
  3. Konsekvenser af anti-retroviral behandlingsprogrammer i udviklingslande, herunder effekt på HIV-transmission og sundhedssystem.
  4. Epidemiologiske og kontrolmæssige aspekter af de mest almindelige parasitiske infektioner i lavindkomstlande, herunder malaria, intestinale orm, schistosomiasis og lymfatisk filariasis, samt rejsemedicinske aspekter af malaria profylaksis.
  5. Sundhedsmæssige konsekvenser af mandlig omskæring i høj- og lavindkomstsamfund, herunder komplikationer og hiv/aids-forebyggelse.

  • Associations between gender violence and pregnancy related outcomes, including depression during pregnancy, postpartum depression, low birth weight and premature birth (Vietnam and Tanzania)
  • Access to health care among key populations in a HIV epidemic (Tanzania)
  • Factors influencing compliance to mass drug administration in the control of lymphatic filariasis in rural and urban areas of Tanzania
