Short presentation

I am associate professor in urban and regional planning at IGN and am a member of the resarch groups Spatial Change and Planning and GIScience and Geodesign.

Research topics include spatial planning, sustainable urban development, resource and energy efficient cities, land use change, urban sprawl, functional regions, small towns, spatial analysis, digital planning.

I hold a MSc in Urban and Regional Planning (2006) from the Vienna University of Technology. My PhD project (finished in 2012) was supervised by Gertrud Jørgensen, Thomas Sick Nielsen and Stephan Pauleit and dealt with urbanisation of rural areas and urban growth management.

In the past years I was involved in several national and international projects, including

I am / was co-supervisor for several PhD students: Tongyun Du (ongoing), Lu Sun (ongoing), Liang Xiao (guest PhD 2019-2020), Juliane Große (finished in 2017)

I teach in the Landscape Architecture programme. From 2008 to 2014 I was co-responsible for the bachelor course "Bypolitik" (Urban policies). Since 2016 I am co-responsible for "Byplan Studio" (Urban Planning Studio). I regularily supervise bachelor and master students.
