Abstract
By the early fourteenth century, when Icelandic sagas and poetry had matured into an impressively rich literary system on its own, a new generation of saga-writers seems to have developed a taste for importing new themes, story-patterns, and motifs into their sagas, which were evidently picked up from continental Latin and French literature.
