Jane Mutheu Mutune planned the study, collected the data and led the analysis and writing. Jens Friis Lund contributed to planning, analysis, writing and revisions and resubmission. Raphael G. Wahome and David N. Mungai, both senior staff members at the Wangari Maathai Institute, University of Nairobi contributed to the planning of the field work underlying the article as well as through written comments and edits to an early draft of the article. Shortly following its publication in June 2016, Raphael G. Wahome and David N. Mungai claimed and were –subject to diverging interpretations- awarded authorship to the article citing the above mentioned contributions. Unethical behavior could, at no time, be identified on the side of the original two authors.
