N2 - One of the most important features of microbial biofilms is their tolerance to antimicrobial agents and components of the host immune system. The difficulty of treating biofilm infections with antibiotics is a major clinical problem. Although antibiotics may decrease the number of bacteria in biofilms, they will not completely eradicate the bacteria in vivo which may have important clinical consequences in form of relapses of the infection.
