Primære forskningsområder

Our research is focused on development of NEW CONCEPTS and technologies for analytical microextraction based on artificial liquid membranes. Our research group has invented liquid-phase microextraction (LPME), electromembrane extraction (EME), and parallel artificial liquid membrane extraction (PALME). LPME, EME, and PALME can be used to selectively extract drug substances, drug metabolites, and peptides from biological fluids prior to analysis by chromatography, electrophoresis, or mass spectrometry. In addition, LPME and EME can been implemented into lab-on-a-chip systems for in-vitro drug metabolism studies. The philosophy of our research in the area of analytical microextraction (including LPME, EME, and PALME) is to:

  • Develop NEW CONCEPTS which addresses limitations of existing technology
  • Commercialize the NEW CONCEPTS
  • Develop the scientific understanding of how to optimize and operate the NEW CONCEPTS
  • Develop tutorial and forefront applications of the NEW CONCEPTS

Stig Pedersen-Bjergaard has a part time position at KU (20%), and a full time position at the University of Oslo (Norway). The research is performed in collaboration with the University of Oslo, and with several commercial partners.
