Research biography
As a post doc in equine molecular orthopaedics, I research in the use of mesenchymal stem cells from different tissue sources, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) and mature cells as cell-based therapeutic treatments in equine orthopaedic disorders.
My PhD project was entitled 'The equine synovial membrane - and its' dynamics'. The PhD Project focused on the synovial membrane at a cellular level and in respect to the histology of the synovial membrane. The main focus areas were: finding novel cellular markers for fibroblast-like synoviocytes by using a microarray platform, performed in collaboration with ARK Genomics at the Roslin Institute, Scotland, and to describe synovial folds in equine cervical facet joints. Please refer to the Research group of Equine Molecular Orthopaedics for further information on the projects.
I completed my DVM at Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen in 2005. In my final year project I isolated and cultured mesenchymal stem cells from the bone marrow from dogs and cats.
Funding
The post doc project funded by The Danish Research Council (FTP) as a part of the project:
'Selection of the best possible cell source for cell therapy in orthopaedic disorders - tissue formation potential and response to an inflammatory micro-environment'
'A comparative study of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS), mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), and mature tissue cells using clinically relevant in vitro models'.
The PhD programme was funded by The faculty of Life Sciences at University of Copenhagen, Denmark. I received additional funding from Ellen, Christian og Anders Petersens Fond, Vetfond, The Lundbeck Foundation and Hesteafgiftsfonden.
2013- Post Doc
2009-2012 PhD Programme
2006-2008: Veterinary Surgeon in private small animal practice
2005: DVM from Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen
I teach in the practical course 'Clinical Examination Technique' at the Large Animal Hospital, 2 courses a year (2.5 week per course) where I participate in planning and didactical deveopment of the course (done 2 years).
I have lectured in cell biology, histology and biochemistry for veterinarians and organised practical laboratory exercises and theoretical exercises during the previous two years.
During my PhD, I taught in practical laboratory exercises and theoretical exercises at the course 'Biochemistry for veterinarians' for 3 years
In addition I have co-supervised master's thesis, laboratory techinician assignments
