Abstract
Farmed eels have more males compared to wild populations. A recent escape of farmed eels was shown to distort the sex ratio in nature. It was confirmed by mass spectrometry of otoliths in the eels. Farmed eels have another ratio between strontium and calcium and between manganese and calcium compared to wild eels. There fore this method was used for confirmation of the escape.
