    Abstract

Two species of sigalionid polychaetes in the genus Sthenelanella, i.e., S. cf. uniformis Moore, 1910 and Sthenelanella sp.l, are reported from the Andaman Sea, southwestern Thailand. Sthenelanella ehlersi (Horst, 1916) is furthermore recognized from off Durban. The occurrence of dorsal tentacular crests is the main character used for distinguishing S. ehlersi from other members of the genus, whereas S. uniformis has dorsal ctenidia between segments 2 and 3, but lacks compound neurochaetae with articulated blades on anterior segments. Sthenelanella sp.l resembles S. corallicola Thomassin, 1972 and S. peterseni Lana, 1991 in having compound neurochaetae with articulated blades on anterior segments. However, in the present specimen of Sthenelanella sp.l the tips of these neurochaetae are entire, whereas some of them are bifid in S. corallicola and S. peterseni.
