The Dane Edvard Ph. Mackeprang: the world’s first modern econometrician

Abstract

Edvard Ph. Mackeprang contributed to econometrics and descriptive statistics in the first decade of the 20th century. His econometric contributions were not well received of his contemporaries (with Ragnar Frisch as the only exception); consequently they were never published outside Denmark and forgotten until the 1970s. But since they have been rediscovered and at least two of them justifies to call him the world’s first modern econometrician.
