‘Si tantum pater est non tantum pater est. An English Sophisma from the Late Thirteenth Century’

Abstract

Edition and commentary on a 13th-century sophisma Si tantum pater est, non tantum pater est found in partly overlapping versions in three manuscripts. The sophisma was not just one of several designed to investigate how exclusive operators work; it was also a tool for investigating the logical behaviour of relative terms.
