Abstract

Liner notes for an audio recording of music in medieval Denmark, including chants from the office of St Knud Lavard, martyred in 1131, and songs by Meister Rumelant about the murder of King Erik V "Klipping" (1286). The essay gives historical information about the murders and their later musical impact.
The music is recorded by Agniszka Budzinska-Bennett, Benjamin Bagby and the Ensemble Peregrina.
