Recreational drug use and the club scene

Abstract

Introduction In the late 1980s and early 1990s, recreational use of illegal drugs (cannabis, ecstasy, amphetamine, LSD, cocaine etc.) started to increase dramatically in many Western countries and is now regarded as an integrated part of night life in modern societies. Recreational drug use may be dened as occasional and limited use of drugs in specic settings, and as controlled and predictable drug intake without severe physical, mental or social consequences (Measham et al., 2000; Parker, 2005).
