Abstract

High-field experiments on the relaxation betweenF in small Teflon spheres andHe on the surface are reported. WithHe as a monolayer, coupling times are found to be less than 5 sec, in magnetic fields up to 3 T and temperatures down to 50 mK, where electronic centers are completely polarized. The results between 200 and 300 mK and for three magnetic fields fit a coupling model involving an unusually large exchange interaction in the monolayer. With liquidHe we obtain a linear dependence of theHe relaxation time upon both field and temperature.
