Abstract

Glass transition in the polaron dynamics of colossal magnetoresistive manganites was discussed using neutron scattering measurements. It was found that the short-range polaron correlations were completely dynamic at high temperature and freeze upon cooling to a temperature T* ≈ 310 K. The analysis showed that upon further cooling into ferromagnetic-metallic state (TC = 114 K), where the polaron melt, the diffuse scattering quickly developed into a propagating and transverse optic phonon.
