Abstract

This chapter gives an overview of the history of forensic science in Denmark, with an emphasis on forensic medical science. The beginnings of forensic science in Denmark date to the 17th century, and today comprises police forensic technical experts, as well as university-based forensic medical experts. This development has broadly followed developments elsewhere in Europe and the United States. The forensic science services are overall directed by the Danish Administration of Justice Act. There is a national society of forensic science, which, also in collaboration with like societies in the other Scandinavian countries, publishes an English-language journal.
