‘Auf, Auf, ihr Christen': Representing the Clash of Empires, Vienna 1683

Abstract

Related to the Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683 and the Turkish defeat, the article considers 1: Polish representations of the events (Jan Sobieski, Wespazjan Kochowski) as well as of previsous confrontations with the Turks (Samuel Twardowski, Waslaw Potocki), and 2: the Austrian Abraham a Sancta Clara's pamphlet Auff, auff ihr Christen.
