Abstract

Arts, culture, and entertainment coverage is a specialized type of journalism that reports on and debates the broad cultural field. It is often referred to as “cultural journalism”. Emerging research within the field highlights the strong influence of cultural globalization as well as the commercialization and digitalization of the news industry on this type of journalism. Some are critical of these changes, while others argue that they have made cultural journalism prosper. There is a general consensus among researchers, however, that the professional norms and practices of journalists covering the cultural field differ from those of other types of journalists in terms of professional expertise, genre use, interplay or intertwinement with sources, and perceived societal roles.
