Personal profile

Primary fields of research

My primary field of interest is on Northern Somalia and how competing notions of statehood are manifested in this area.

Current research

My research mainly focuses on state building and state formation in Northern Somalia (Somaliland). Through ethnographic fieldwork I explore how the Somali state and other competing authorities seek to manifest their authority through the provision of service delivery to the citizens in Somaliland. While the empirical grist for this study is centered around land disputes, it is espcially the political implications that lie implicitly in how these disputes play out over time that remains my area of focus.
