Current research

Currently, I am Postdoctoral Visiting Researcher, visiting the CFS from the University of Jyväskylä (Finland), where I am employed as a University Researcher in the research project MEPA: "Marginalization and Experience: Phenomenological Analyses of Normality and Abnormality" (PI: Professor Sara Heinämaa). More on this project here:

https://www.jyu.fi/hytk/fi/laitokset/yfi/en/research/projects/mepa/about

My MEPA sub-project “Antagonistic Political Emotions: An Integrative Account” aims at elaborating the phenomenological nature, the intentional structure and the appropriateness conditions, or normativity, of antagonistic political emotions (APE). Moreover, it shall shed new light on the socio-psychological mechanisms that underlie in-group/out-group demarcations and lead to the individual habitualization and group-level sedimentation of APE. To achieve this aim, the project will propose a novel, collective affective intentionality account of APE, according to which paradigmatic political emotions are affectively shared evaluative perspectives towards concerns of political import and structurally exhibit a specific form of antagonism. Among paradigmatic APE, the project will primarily focus on collective and inter-group hatred and Ressentiment. In terms of methodology, the project will endorse a pluralistic and integrative approach, drawing on classical phenomenology (esp. Scheler and Kolnai), contemporary philosophy of (collective) emotions and the relevant strands in the empirical and social sciences, notably work on emotional habitus from the sociology of emotions, social identification and inter-group emotion theory, studies on affective political sophistication from political psychology and research on emotions from the political sciences.

Previously, I have been employed at CFS as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow (May 2016 - April 2018), working on my two-year research project, "SHARE: Shared Emotions, Group Membership, and Empathy", which is funded by the European Commission Horizon-2020 Research Innovation Framework Programme (SHARE-655067). You can find more about SHARE here:

http://cfs.ku.dk/research-activities/researchprojects/share/about-the-project/

Before starting SHARE, I have also spent two Postdoc years at CFS on a related  VELUX Fonden research project, entitled “Empathy and Interpersonal Understanding”.

And before I came to Copenhagen, I was a Postdoc at UCD Dublin (2012-2013) and Adjunct Lecturer at several universities in Austria, including the University of Vienna.
