Tanja Anna Wiehn

Short presentation

Tanja Wiehn is a PhD student at the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies. In her project she looks at encounters with technology in contemporary art and online practices to question the ramifications of digital cultures on the state of subjectivity. Theoretically, her work is grounded in critical posthumanism and informed by algorithmic and internet studies.

Her main research areas include: critical posthumanism, cultural theory, algorithmic and internet studies, digital humanities.

She has an academic background in cultural and communications studies. For her MA, she studied at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) and at Malmö University. In her master thesis she worked with the digital construction of identity and memory through social network sites. Hereby she analyzed digital afterlife services and the curation of online profiles. She received her BA in cultural studies and French philology from the University of Potsdam. In her bachelor thesis, she was discussing Dieter Roth’s impact on the Icelandic art scene throughout the 70s and 80s. 

Tanja Wiehn is a member of the Digital Culture research group at the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies and affiliated with the Network Algorithmic Software Culture.

From April to end of June 2019, she will be a visiting researcher with Prof. Rosi Braidotti at the Department of Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
