Current research

Soil microbiology, denitrifying bacteria, biogenic gas-emissions from soil especially nitrous oxide, Global change studies. Microbiological diversity and functions in terrestrial ecosystems with emphasis on denitrification.

Recent projects: EU sponsored FORCAST project on carbon and nitrogen in European forests, Danida-RUF project on fires in tropical savannas and microbial activity in savanna soils and
WASAC project on West Africa´s savannah under change.

Chromatograhic and photoaccoustic analyses are used in the emission studies and the department is operating a gas-chromatography laboratory well equipped for ecological studies.
