Current research
Molekylær systematik med særlig henblik på de énkimbladede, Monocotyledones: Projekter spænder over overordnet fylogenetisk analyse af de énkimbladede til artsniveau, fx fylogenetiske studier inden for fx græsgruppen, Triticeae (hvede, byg, rug) og slægterne krokus (Crocus) og tidløs (Colchicum). Fylogenierne baseres på DNA-sekvensdata fra alle 3 genomer (kerne, plastider, mitokondrier) samt morfologiske karakterer.
Desuden undersøges teoretiske og praktiske problemer ved anvendelsen af korte DNA-strege til identifikation af dyr og planter (DNA barcoding).
Teoretiske problemer i forbindelse med fylogenetisk analyse: alignment af DNA sekvenser; og retikulat evolution hos allopolyploider.
Molekylær evolution studeres med henblik på samspillet mellem molekylernes egen evolution og organismernes fylogeni. Bl.a. forskers der i det mitokondrielle genom hos dækfrøede planter (Angiospermae); fx RNA editering, lateral genoverførsel og genomets struktur. Tillige foretages studier af transposable elementer.
