Short presentation

Mikele Schultz-Knudsen is a PhD-student at CECS, Faculty of Law. His main area of research is the use of Islamic law in Denmark, including how Islamic law is currently being used, which legal problems arise due to conflicts with Danish law and which solutions to these problems can be found in Danish law and Islamic law.

Mikele took his Bachelor and Master in Law at Aarhus University, Denmark, and has since then worked first as an assistant-attorney in the law firm Bruun & Hjejle and then as an attorney at the Danish employer organisation Dansk Industri, before joining CECS. He has also taken the official Mediator Education for Danish Attorneys.

The relationship between Danish law and other legal orders has been a recurrent theme in his career. As an attorney, he was involved in the highly principled Ajos-case, concerning the relationship between Danish law and EU law, which the team he was part of won. He also worked on the constitutional relationship with Greenlandic law as well as the regulation of the partly self-governed collective labour law system. These experiences are being drawn on in his current research on the relationship between Danish law and Islamic law.

He is currently teaching the courses "Introduction to Danish Law" (MA-level) and "Family Law and Inheritance Law" (BA-level). Earlier he has been teaching "Constitutional Law" (BA-level) at Aarhus University for three years.

He is currently the National Academic Supervisor for ELSA's Nordic Legal Research Group on Family Law. He is also the National Reviewer of The I·CONnect-Clough Center Global Review of Constitutional Law. His review for 2018 is available here

His main competencies are in Family/Inheritance Law, Constitutional Law, Labour Law, Mediation/Alternative Conflict Resolution, Islamic Law as well as in areas of legal pluralism and competing legal orders.
