Short presentation

Marie Schnell is a PhD student and landscape architect  at the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, University of Copenhagen. She specializes in planting design - the use of plants to create space, identity, and experience value, and to support the development of living and sustainable cities.

Her PhD focuses on shrubs as vegetation, plantation and interacting part both in terms of ecology and design. She analyses vegetation structures of shrubs in their natural habitats compared to the plantation schemes in contemporary landscape architecture.

Aims

- To provide a deeper understanding on how design and management affect the performance of shrub plantings in terms of physical appearance, plant health and lifespan.

- To develop empirically substantiated theory of design strategies for shrub plantings.
