Julie Fjeldborg obtained the veterinary degree (DVM) in 1980 at The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL). In 1985 she defended her PhD thesis in “Pharyngeal-laryngeal obstructions in the Upper Airways in the Horse”.

She has been leading in developing endoscopy in Denmark which includes endoscopy during work at treadmill and now by using dynamic endoscopy. Furthermore she is the most experienced surgeon in Denmark in upper airway surgery in horses, and is often consulted by equine practitioners. Her great knowledge has been utilized as boardmember in international veterinary associations as World Equine Veterinary Association (WEVA), Veterinary Comparative Respiratory Society (VCRS) and World Equine Airway Society (WEAS).

Her research program explores a variety of topics in the equine species in relation to poor performance due to the airways. A standardization of bronchoalveolar lavage is one of her main interests but also the interpretation of poor performance by dynamic endoscopy is in her field.

She works within Large Animal Surgery at the Large Animal University Hospital at Taastrup Campus,where she participates in the clinical teaching of veterinary students within Large Animal Surgery. Furthermore she is the supervisor of a lot of master students.
