Personal profile

Short presentation

My primary research interest is in conservation biology, looking at the relationship between management (conservation responses) and changes in animal populations (State) or threats (Pressures).

The main focus of my PhD work, is addressing how different parameters of protected area management affect biodiversity indicators, to evaluate present conservation strategies and improve future ones. I am especially interested in African protected areas, but also more overall conservation efforts to preserve biodiversity though Strategic Conservation Planning and selection criteria for protected areas. I collaborate with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), Cambridge and Oxford Universities and UNEP-WCMC using the Protected Area Management Effectiveness information module (METT) and the Living Planet Index (LPI).

Teaching

I am involved in the teaching in “International Nature Conservation” for Master students as well as the advanced course in statistics for Biology students at the University of Copenhagen. I also help plan the seminar course for Master students at the Section for Ecology and Evolution.

I am involved in the supervision of two master thesis projects. One on Management effectiveness of Scandinavian birds and another on the Biological relevance and historical use the Danish Nature conservation instrument “Fredninger”.
