Research activities
Criminal Law and criminal procedural law, sentencing and criminal sanctions, youthful offenders, international criminal law, EU criminal law, antiterrorism legislation, extradition law and the European Arrest Warrant, law enforcement, psychiatry and Law, medical aid in dying.

Jørn Vestergaard interesserer sig bredt for strafferettens teoretiske og retspolitiske problemstillinger, herunder særligt: 

  • Strafferet, straffeprocesret og straffuldbyrdelsesret
  • Den europæiske arrestordre og lovgivningen om udlevering
  • Terrorismelovgivning
  • Den Internationale Straffedomstol og international strafferet i øvrigt
  • Foranstaltninger over for unge lovovertrædere

Hans aktuelle forskningsinteresser knytter sig bl.a. til lovgivningen om bekæmpelsen af terrorisme, den europæiske arrestordre og reglerne om udlevering, Den Internationale Straffedomstol samt påvirkningen af dansk ret gennem EU-ret og international ret. Desuden har han forsket i emner inden for politiret, sociale uroligheder, foranstaltninger over for unge kriminelle samt bioret og etik.

Jørn Vestergaard har bred erfaring med undervisning og uddannelsesplanlægning, bl.a. fra en periode som studieleder for den juridiske uddannelse. Hans navn ses ofte i forbindelse med formidling af juridiske emner til den brede offentlighed. Han har varetaget en række administrative og ledelsesmæssige opgaver, bl.a. som institutleder. Siden sommeren 2006 har han som prodekan været med i den øverste ledelse for Det Juridiske Fakultet.
