Primary fields of research

My prime research interest is in biogeochemical processes at the interface between geochemistry, mineralogy and microbiology. In particular, I am interested in microbe-mineral-fluid interactions, kinetics and mechanisms of mineral formation, and mechanisms of and controls on biomineralisation; processes that are all fundamental to a multitude of environmental and remediation processes as well as engineering technologies. Overall, my research occurs at the nano- and micron- scale, where I observe and quantify biogeochemical processes in situ and in real time using synchrotron based and conventional spectroscopy and scattering techniques combined with high-resolution microscopy.
