Current research

My dissertation research is in the intersection between moral philosophy and studies of war crime and genocide, more specifically the empirical focus of the project is soldiers and perpetrators in situations of genocide and war crimes. It is a well-known phenomenon that some of these soldiers experience strong emotional outbursts and forms of physical discomfort—such as disgust, dizziness or nausea—in the actual moment of perpetration or when witnessing atrocities. I rely examples from the literature on perpetrators and soldiers ranging from the Holocaust and Rwanda, to ex-Yugoslavia and American soldiers in Vietnam.

The more theoretical part of the project explores the potential moral significance of strong emotional outbursts and phenomena of disgust, revulsion and abhorrence, so more broadly I'm exploring some of the recent trends in philosophy of emotions.

In the academic year 2011-2011 I was a Visiting PhD student at the Philosophy Department at University of Chicago.
