Short presentation

Caroline Lillelund is a PhD fellow at the Department of Anthropology, University of Copenhagen and currently affiliated with the School of Media and Cultural Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
Her present research explores contemporary social imaginaries of the museum and art world in India with a focus on the exhibition and circulation of Indian art. The project is part of the Danish research project ‘Global Europe’ headed by Prof. Oscar Salemink that examines contemporary global hierarchies of value through art and artefacts in  Brazil, South Africa, India, China and Japan.
Caroline has previously worked as a curatorial assistant and acting curator of the Indian collections of the National Museum of Denmark and published on issues of identity and material culture among Dalit and low-caste communities in rural Tamil Nadu. In her master's thesis 'Personal Emancipation or Cultural Recognition - A Dalit Dilemma' she explored dilemmas pertaining to the politisation of identity in the Dalit movement in Karnataka, India based on empirical data from 11 months of anthropological fieldwork.
