Short presentation

Presentation:

I took my BA and MA in English and History at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen. After finishing my Master of Arts, I took an MPhil degree in Medieval and Renaissance English Literature at the University of Cambridge. Throughout my studies the recurrent theme and object of inquiry has been the phenomenon of silence – in literary and historical sources across the Modernist, Early Modern and medieval periods. Since the completion of my MPhil degree, I have been working on two manuscript projects: first, on CUL MS Gg.4.18, a Middle English translation of Boethius's De Consolatione Philosophiae, which has been published on the Cambridge University Digital library (see link below); second, I have been working on a French late Renaissance manuscript for the library at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, which will be published in August 2018 on Cambridge University Digital Library.

Current Research Project:

My present research project at the Centre for Privacy Studies is focused on the idea of silence as both a private inward space and a possible public threat. The aim of this project is to explore the paradoxical notions of privacy in the acts of speech and non-speech, mapping the development of notions of privacy during the reign of Elizabeth I (1558-1603). My research will focus on the place of privacy in distinctions of public and domestic, inward and outward in an examination of the Star Chamber as a locus for the transgression of boundaries of the personal, the professional, and the public; involving the heuristic zones of body, mind, and confidentiality, seen through the lens of the Ex Officio oath as a public strategy to crush the subject’s private space of silence.
