Description
WriFD Corpus is a linguistic corpus that consists of 89 Danish essays written in 2007 by Faroese students (age 17) at a commercial school in Kambsdalur on the Faroe Islands. A commercial school in the Faroese/Danish system is attended by pupils with average socio-economic backgrounds and levels of education. This means that the corpus represents the text production of average young Faroe Islanders, i.e. speakers of Faroe Danish.
WriFD Corpus 2.0 is a further development of WriFD Corpus 1.0. that has been developed in the research project 'Variance in the multilingualism on the Faroe Islands' at the Research Center 538 Multilingualism at the University of Hamburg by myself. The research project, led by Kurt Braunmüller, was funded by the German Research Foundation (2005–2011).
WriFD is XML-based. It follows the standards of TEI, is refined by the tagset PaCMan 2.0 while also conforming to an additional tagset developed for this corpus (a manual for the corpus design and annotation is being drafted). The general approach in the development of annotation categories is strictly operational, explicitely defined, largely theory-neutral and language specific.
