The emerging space of 'progressive school-pedagogues' 1929-1960: Sociological studies of cultural legitimacy

Activity: Talk or presentation typesLecture and oral contribution

Description

The purpose of the talk is to promote a nuanced understanding of the complex and contradictory cultural and social forces that provided the context of changed educational forms as well as the context of changed educational policies 1929-1960 in Denmark. However, Denmark was part of a transnational space where goals of mass education, inspired by ideals of democracy were pursued, but at the same time racist and totalitarian objectives were significant powers. Differentiation and hierarchisation of power were transforming, not dissolving. The talk constructs the heterogeneous group of individuals that participated in the reformation of school-pedagogy as a space of significant ‘school pedagogues’ situated in a multidimensional social space structured by hierarchical levels and differentiated forms of resources.
