Description
The 2nd International Conference on the Academy is held at the University of Copenhagen with a focus on academic practice, learning and teaching with special regard to academic identity. The organisers of Academic Identity invite relevant figures in the academic world from across the globe to address issues of educational, intellectual, political and cultural importance in relation to the academic fostering of people who are raised within the walls of the university institution to take active part in all spheres of society. Academic identity, however, is not restricted to the architectural limits of the university, but ought to be continually shaped in relation with academic practice, thinking and living through its social dissemination. To address the importance of education and identity, existence and learning, we must ask questions such as: What is the relation between identity and academia? What is the project of the teacher, the student and the institution in which they gather? How can inner motivation be spurred by external factors? How are students to be integrated in academia? Do students know what they want to be taught? Is it an advantage if they do? Is scholarship knowledge accumulation or a democratic practice? To what degree should the university cultivate students' personhood? In accounting for these considerations, we want to invite our participants to consider themes such as the construction of communities of thought and intellect, student activity at the university, the role of reflexivity, commitment and care in regard to learning, the place of theoretical disquisition and theory, and the position of the student, the teacher and the university.Period | 2014 |
